Project description

This unit within the Master of Public Health focuses on leadership, teamwork, advocacy and innovation with the development of key practical skills in these areas for a career in public health. You will develop skills to collaborate and communicate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams of diverse backgrounds and in different contexts. You will also learn to apply reflective thinking to your public health practice and implement fresh, innovative ideas to address complex public health issues. You will engage with a wide variety of leaders in public health throughout the unit and learn from them what public health advocacy is and how to conduct an advocacy campaign.

1. Compare leadership theory and frameworks in relation to public health. 2. Develop personal definitions of leadership and leadership development plans. 3. Develop and apply teamwork processes and skills for authentic solutions to address real-world challenges for public health team work and leadership. 4. Apply reflective thinking in relation to individual characteristics, style and personal attitudes and beliefs and consider how these impact on decision making. 5. Explain the importance of, and mechanisms for, advocacy for the public health profession. 6. Apply innovative thinking and work in new ways to face challenges in public health.
